Digital Prices
Normally digital printing is cost effective on runs of
anything from 1 to 1000 subject to how many pages are
involved in the document etc. In other words a single
page A4 leaflet printed in full colour two sides will be
cheaper on a run of up to about 100 than traditional
litho printing.
If you have
a 64 page A4 booklet this would be competitively priced
via digital printing up until around the 500 - 1000 mark
subject to which size litho printing press i.e. the
bigger the press the less plate costs but the more
expensive running time! It is always a trade off between
digital and litho.

Digital Printing Quality and Speed
This is the old chestnut. Is it as good as litho
printing. The answer in purest terms is no. If there are
lots of tints and graduated tints then these will not
print as good as a litho job on a traditional press.
In reality
you have to ask yourself what you are trying to achieve.
Is your objective to win a fine art competition or is it
to communicate via the written word, quickly and cost
effectively?
Digital
printing is of a very acceptable commercial quality and
the reality is that few people other than those who work
in the industry could probably tell the difference
anyway! It is about the end user experience.
The major
benefit of digital printing is it's speed. Files can be
turned around in hours subject to work load. Under litho
printing techniques this rarely happens as the process
is far more elongated.
